If you know, you know. Martin Short in unconvincing old man make-up telling the story of him in unconvincing ten-year old make-up, being a weird embodiment of chaos. This is probably for the best as his physical altercations with Charles Grodin would be far more disturbing if you thought for even a second that Martin Short was an actual ten-year old. I get why the critics hated it, but it’s only because they are cowards. As it stands, it’s one of the best “Grown Man Fights Child” genre of films, of which there are admittedly very few.
The Good Times Are Killing Me by Lynda Barry
As someone familiar with Ernie Pook’s Comeek, I found that that this novel usually covered similar territory. It’s the story of kids in the 60s interacting with each other, but this novel has a theme of race throughout. The narrative is pretty loose, but you there’s a through-line of Edna Arkins and her friendship (and then ex-friendship) with Bonna Willis. As you might expect, it gets complicated. It’s a pretty solid read, but I didn’t find it quite as engaging as any of the collections of Ernie Pook’s Comeek and other Lynda Barry comics that have been put out by D+Q.
THIS WEEKS SOUNDTRACK
Space Channel 5 20th Anniversary GyunGuyn Selection [Original Soundtrack] by Various Artists
I can say without any hyperbole that this is the best Big Band Techno Disco album I’ve ever listened to.
SDI & QUARTET SEGA SYSTEM 16 COLLECTION by SEGA SOUND TEAM
You know, at some point Sega really put their whole pussy into making some good-ass music into their games.
Bad Girls by Donna Summer
I can understand why this is so foundational, but aside from a few tracks, I wasn’t in love with it.
The Stranger (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Oliver Coates
Darkroom by Scattle
On a Clear Day I Can See You Forever by LindstrΓΈm
Just a Feeling by OSE
The World As We Know It by Figueroa
This is really weird. It’s an album technically by Amon Tobin, but it’s mostly acoustic instruments (possibly sampled) but constructed with electronic sensibilities. It’s very hard to describe it, you just kind of have to hear it for yourself.
No. 5 by Christina Vantzou
Caring EP by DJ Counselling
That’s some weird Jazztronicality, my man.
Butterfly Arcane by Natahn Micay
Unspoken Words by Max Cooper
Heaven Is for Quitters by FaltyDL
Analog Worms Attack by Mr. Oizo
I feel like Mr. Oizo produces tracks that have some weird blunt force behind them. That may not be entirely accurate, but maybe you know what I mean (or you don’t).
Who Needs Guitars Anyway? by Alice Deejay
Look, there’s not really too much here beyond “Are You Better Off Alone?” but it’s a solid late 90s dance album.
G-Stoned by Kruder & Dorfmeister
Don’t really know. There seems to be a lot of potential, but it’s only four tracks.
Tourist (Remastered) by St. Germain
Some decent nu jazz. Half the tracks are real solid, the other half I’m not so sure about.
ADORE ADORE ADORE by Android52
Some tracks have bad dubstep tendencies, but pretty solid stuff overall.
